Matt Brown's Untimely Death

Matt Brown, known for his role on the Discovery Channel's series Alaskan Bush People, has tragically passed away by suicide, as confirmed by his brother Bear Brown. In a TikTok video shared on Saturday, Bear revealed that their younger brother Noah had discovered Matt's body in the Okanogan River located in Washington state. Bear mentioned that Noah was able to identify Matt's remains, and authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his death. Bear expressed disbelief that Matt would take such a drastic step, stating, "I didn't think he would hurt himself; it does look like the injury is self-inflicted." He emphasized that the coroner would conduct a thorough examination, but felt it was important to inform the public of Matt's passing.

In his video, Bear appealed for respect towards their family, especially their mother, urging people to think about the consequences of their online comments. He noted, "Sometimes words can hurt more than fists can, and a lot of people left negative comments on Matt's stuff too." He recalled that in one of Matt's final videos, he addressed the negativity he faced online.

Earlier in the week, Bear had shared another TikTok video discussing Matt's long-standing battles with alcohol and drug addiction. He clarified that the family had not distanced themselves from Matt, but rather that Matt had chosen to separate himself. Bear recounted their last encounter at a Walmart, where Matt confided in him about relapsing. Bear had encouraged him to seek help. Additionally, he mentioned that Matt was going through a tough time personally, including a painful breakup with someone he cared for deeply. "I guess he had been drinking too much. I don't know all the details to it," Bear added.

Concerns for Matt's wellbeing had escalated earlier this month when he conducted a livestream on YouTube, during which he appeared disoriented and was seen holding what seemed to be a firearm, alarming many viewers. Matt Brown was a prominent figure on Alaskan Bush People from 2014 to 2019, a series that showcased the Brown family's life living off the grid in the wilderness.
