A Heartbreaking Incident at IIT Kharagpur

Kolkata: In a tragic turn of events, another student has reportedly taken his own life at the IIT Kharagpur campus, located in West Bengal's West Midnapore district. This marks the second such incident in a mere ten days.

The lifeless body of the 22-year-old engineering student was discovered in the Madan Mohan Malviya Hall on Tuesday morning. Initial assessments by officials suggest it may be a suicide.

The deceased, identified as Soham Haldar, was from the Shalbagan area in Barasat, North 24 Parganas district. He was enrolled in the MTech program specializing in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering at IIT Kharagpur and resided in the Madan Mohan Malviya Hall.

Security personnel were alerted when the hall door remained closed throughout the morning. Upon entering, they found the student hanging. They promptly notified the police, who subsequently transported the body to BC Roy Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Authorities are currently treating this as a suicide case. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and the family has been notified.

As of now, the IIT Kharagpur administration has not released an official statement regarding this incident.

Previously, on April 18, another student, Jaibir Singh Dodia, tragically jumped from the eighth floor of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hall at the same campus. Dodia, a 21-year-old from the Ghuma area of Ahmedabad, was in his third year studying mechanical engineering and lived in Nehru Hall.
