Fatal Lightning Incidents Reported in Odisha


Bhubaneswar/Jajpur: On Sunday, four individuals, including one woman, tragically lost their lives due to lightning strikes in various districts of Odisha, including Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Sambalpur, and Bhadrak, according to police reports.


A 65-year-old farmer was struck by lightning while working in his fields in Balabhadrapur village, located within the jurisdiction of the Jenapur police station in Jajpur district, as confirmed by a senior police officer.


Witnesses, including other farmers and laborers, found him lying in the field after the incident and rushed him to the Dharmasala Community Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor.


The farmer's body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and authorities have registered a case of unnatural death, with an investigation currently underway.


In another incident, a man was killed by lightning while seeking shelter under a tree in the Kuchinda area of Sambalpur district.


Additionally, a young woman was struck by lightning during her visit to a garden in Bhadrak district, and another farmer died when lightning hit him while he was returning from his agricultural field in the Kujang area of Jagatsinghpur district.
