Lightning Tragedy in Koraput District


Koraput: In a heartbreaking incident, three family members, including a 13-year-old girl, lost their lives due to a lightning strike in the Koraput district of Odisha on Wednesday, according to local authorities.


The tragedy unfolded around 12:30 PM in Kandha Putabandha village, located in the Pottangi block. The victims were working in a field when they sought refuge under a tree during a thunderstorm. Unfortunately, they were struck by lightning while sheltering beneath the tree, resulting in their immediate deaths.


The deceased have been identified as Gamel Krishna, aged 49, his daughter Gamel Kami, aged 13, and a 35-year-old relative named Gamel Tumbai, as reported by the police.


Authorities have recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination, stated Bahadur Singh Dharua, the Tehsildar of Pottangi.


He also mentioned that an initial compensation of Rs 10,000 has been approved for each bereaved family, with additional support to follow in accordance with government regulations.
