Leopard Attack in Sohelwa Forest Area

A young woman tragically lost her life due to a leopard attack while collecting wood in the Bhambar range of the Sohelwa forest area in Balrampur district on Thursday, as reported by an official.


Gaurav Garg, the Divisional Forest Officer of the Sohelwa forest area, stated that Kamla Devi, a 22-year-old member of the Tharu tribe from Vishwapur Koder village in the Pachpedwa region, was gathering wood with other women when the leopard struck.


Following the attack, the other women fled the scene and alerted the villagers. Upon receiving the information, a team from the forest department arrived at the location, recovered the body, and sent it for a post-mortem examination.


Garg mentioned that three teams from the forest department have been deployed to search for the leopard, and tracking cameras are being installed around the incident site.


District Magistrate Vipin Jain informed that the forest department has been instructed to set traps to capture the leopard. He also noted that the post-mortem of the deceased is underway, and financial assistance will be provided to the victim's family once the report is received.
