A woman lost her life due to a leopard attack in a village located within the Sujoli forest range of the Katarniaghat forest division in Bahraich district. This information was confirmed by a forest department official on Sunday.
According to Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) B. Shivshankar, the ranger of the Sujoli forest range informed him via phone that a leopard attacked Jahira (48) while she was sleeping on the open terrace of her home in Ayodhya Purwa village on Saturday night.
The official stated that Jahira fell into the fields below during the attack. Her two children, who were also sleeping with her, fought to protect their mother and shouted for help, causing the leopard to flee into the fields.
Unfortunately, the woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene. A post-mortem examination of her body is scheduled for Sunday. The family of the deceased has been provided with immediate assistance of ten thousand rupees.
Shivshankar further mentioned that since the incident occurred in a residential area outside the forest, formalities will be completed after the post-mortem report and other details are received. The family will be eligible for a government compensation of five lakh rupees this week.
