Tragic Landslides in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir Result in Loss of Lives
Condolences from the Lieutenant Governor
Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed his sorrow on Sunday regarding the fatalities caused by landslides in Kathua district due to heavy rainfall. He confirmed that Home Minister Amit Shah has been informed about the ongoing rescue and relief operations.
In a post on social media platform 'X', Sinha stated, "I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the devastating landslides triggered by rain in several areas of Kathua. This tragedy is heart-wrenching."
He further mentioned, "Home Minister Amit Shah has been briefed about the rescue and relief efforts being carried out by the Army, NDRF (National Disaster Response Force), SDRF (State Disaster Response Force), police, and local administration."
Early Sunday morning, two separate incidents of cloudburst and landslides in Kathua district resulted in at least seven fatalities and left five others injured. The Lieutenant Governor added, "I have instructed senior officials from the administration and police to ensure coordination in the rescue and assistance efforts in the affected areas and to provide medical aid on-site. My thoughts are with the grieving families, and I pray for the swift recovery of the injured."
