Landslide Incident at Simsa Mata Temple

A visit to the revered Simsa Mata Temple turned fatal on Friday when a woman lost her life and seven others were injured due to a sudden landslide that caused a rockfall near Gumma in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.

The victims, who were part of the same family from Sultanpur in Kullu district, were en route to the temple in Lad Bharol, traveling in two vehicles. Officials reported that the family had stopped near Gumma around 10 a.m. for a brief break when large boulders unexpectedly descended from the hillside, leaving them with no time to escape.

Rameshwari Sharma, the wife of Gopal Krishna and a resident of Sultanpur, was killed instantly when a boulder struck her. Seven other family members suffered injuries in the incident.

Local residents, along with police and district administration officials, assisted in rescuing the injured, who were then transported to the Civil Hospital in Jogindernagar for treatment.

The event caused widespread panic as family members and bystanders rushed to safety. Heartbreaking scenes unfolded at the hospital, where relatives mourned the loss of the woman. Videos from the hospital depicted the family's sorrow as police took their statements.

Authorities arrived promptly at the scene after being notified, secured the area, and transported the deceased for a post-mortem examination. A case has been filed, and an investigation is currently in progress.

This tragic event highlights the risks associated with unstable hill slopes during the monsoon season in Himachal Pradesh. Officials have urged travelers and pilgrims to exercise caution when navigating landslide-prone areas, especially during heavy rainfall.
