Tragic Journey: Man Carries Newborn's Body 90 km After Ambulance Denial

Heartbreaking Incident in Maharashtra
A man faced a harrowing ordeal after being refused a medical ambulance, resulting in him traveling 90 kilometers on a bus with his deceased newborn in a carry bag. This unfortunate event occurred at a civil hospital in Nashik, Maharashtra.
Negligence in Healthcare System
‘I lost my child due to the negligence’
Sakharam Kavar, the tribal father, expressed his grief, stating, “I lost my child due to the negligence and indifference of the healthcare system.”
Kavar recounted that his wife went into labor at Khodala PHC on June 11. Despite his attempts to call for an ambulance, he received no assistance. He also reached out to Asha workers, but they were unavailable. After failing to get a response from the emergency number 108, he arranged for a private vehicle to transport his wife to Khodala Public Health Centre.
Delay in Medical Attention
Upon arrival at the PHC, Kavar’s wife was reportedly made to wait for an hour before being referred to Mokhada Civil Hospital. The doctors there advised him to take her to Nashik Civil Hospital after failing to detect the fetus's heartbeat.
Eventually, an ambulance was arranged from Aase village, which transported his wife to Nashik Civil Hospital late in the evening. Tragically, she delivered a stillborn baby on June 12.

He tragically took this drastic step in front of her house on the night of June 13.
