Fatal Incident in Bijwasan Area

New Delhi, August 6 – A man is feared dead after falling into a drain in the Bijwasan area of southwest Delhi amid heavy rainfall on Thursday. Officials reported that rescue teams were unable to locate him despite several hours of searching. In a separate incident, three schoolchildren fell into an open drain in Jagatpur village, North Delhi, due to accumulated rainwater in the street.

Children Rescued from Open Drain

Fortunately, the children survived the incident. According to fire department officials, the children were walking home from school when they accidentally stepped into the overflowing drain. Local residents rushed to assist and successfully pulled all three children to safety.

CCTV Footage Captures the Incident

CCTV footage from the scene shows a group of children navigating the flooded street, with three of them suddenly falling into the open drain, prompting bystanders to intervene. The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received reports of a person falling into a drain near Bagdola village around 12:20 PM during the heavy rainfall. A fire truck was dispatched at 12:21 PM, and a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) joined the search efforts.

Search Operations Halted Due to Darkness

A fire department official stated that despite extensive searches by the fire truck and NDRF team, the individual could not be found. The drain is quite large, and the official mentioned that the body has not yet been recovered, as it connects to a larger drain that eventually leads to a canal. They noted that the search operation was suspended after dark due to poor visibility, with plans to resume the next day. Heavy rainfall across various parts of the capital on Thursday resulted in widespread flooding and overflowing drains.

Claims of Eyewitness Account

A video allegedly released by former Deputy Mayor Praveen Rana claims that the man fell into the drain while walking on the footpath near the Bamnol Bus Stand on Dwarka Expressway around noon. Rana stated that a local resident witnessed the incident and attempted to pull the man out by his leg but was unsuccessful.
