Tragic Incident: Wild Elephants Claim Life of Man in Jharkhand

Wild Elephant Attack in Hazaribagh

In a tragic event in Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand, a man was killed after being trampled by wild elephants. Authorities reported this incident on Tuesday, revealing that it occurred on Monday in the village of Barkangango, located within the jurisdiction of the Barkattha police station.

The deceased has been identified as Chintamani Sahu, a resident of the same village. According to police, his body was discovered in a field on Tuesday morning. Ashish Kumar, the officer in charge of the Barkattha police station, stated that Sahu had gone to the fields on Monday afternoon when he was attacked by the elephants.

Family members searched for him and found his body the following morning. The body has been sent to a government hospital for post-mortem examination. Satendra Kumar Chaudhary, an official from the Barhi forest area, mentioned that the victim's family has been provided with immediate relief of one lakh rupees, with additional compensation to follow after formalities are completed.

Currently, three elephants are roaming in the area. To manage the situation, the forest department has deployed a 15-member rapid response team to drive the elephants away. The Jharkhand government offers a compensation of ten lakh rupees for fatalities caused by wild animal attacks.
