Tragedy Strikes at Deojharan Waterfall


Sambalpur: In a heartbreaking incident, two final-year MBBS students tragically drowned at the Deojharan waterfall in Odisha's Sambalpur district after being caught in a flash flood on Saturday, as reported by local authorities.


The victims, identified as Monica Meena from Rajasthan and Sandeep Puri from New Delhi, were students at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla.


According to Sanjay Rout, the inspector-in-charge at Jujomura Police Station, a group of six students had visited the popular waterfall for a day out when the sudden downpour from the hills caused the stream to swell rapidly, sweeping the two students away.


The remaining members of the group, along with other visitors, quickly notified the fire service and police for assistance.


Rescue teams promptly arrived and were able to recover the bodies, as confirmed by police officials.


An unnatural death case has been registered, and an investigation is currently in progress. Additionally, a team from the medical institute has visited the site of the tragedy.
