Bhopal, August 19: A 35-year-old member of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) reportedly took his own life by shooting himself with his service rifle while on duty at a CSD Camp Depot in Bhopal, as confirmed by local authorities on Wednesday.

The tragic event occurred in the Kamla Nagar police jurisdiction, prompting police to arrive at the scene and transport the body to Hamidia Hospital for an autopsy.

Nirupama Pandey, the officer in charge of Kamla Nagar police station, stated that the deceased, identified as Sandeep Kharmate, was on duty at the depot when he allegedly shot himself.

"A case has been filed regarding this unnatural death, and an investigation is currently in progress. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination," Pandey reported.

As per police reports, Kharmate's wife was notified by departmental officials about his passing around 4 a.m. on Wednesday. She mentioned that their last conversation occurred around 10 p.m. the previous night, during which he informed her he was on duty. There was no further communication after that, according to police.

A suicide note, written in Marathi, was found at the scene and has been sent for translation to understand its contents.

"Initial details from the note suggest he expressed remorse to his wife and cited personal issues as reasons for his drastic decision. The full context will be clearer once the note is completely translated," Pandey added.

Authorities have yet to record detailed statements from the deceased's family members.

Additionally, Kharmate's colleagues and departmental officials are being interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police are meticulously reviewing evidence gathered from the site and are working to determine the factors that led to the jawan's tragic death.

Officials indicated that the precise motive behind the suicide will only be established after the note is translated, evidence is analyzed, and statements from family and colleagues are taken.
