Accidental Shooting Claims Soldier's Life

Tragic Incident: Soldier Loses Life in Accidental Shooting in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu: A soldier tragically lost his life on Sunday due to an accidental discharge of his weapon in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The deceased has been identified as 27-year-old Vijay Kumar from Rajasthan, who was found unresponsive while on duty this morning.

Medical personnel at the hospital confirmed he was dead upon arrival. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the precise circumstances surrounding his death. Initial findings suggest that the soldier succumbed to injuries from an accidental firing of his service weapon.

It is important to note that the Army and security forces are on high alert in various districts of the Jammu division, including Kishtwar, Doda, Rajouri, Poonch, Kathua, Udhampur, and Ramban, following reports of terrorist movements in these regions.

On March 23, five terrorists were spotted in Sanyal village, Kathua district. A police team promptly engaged them, resulting in the death of two terrorists and the martyrdom of four local police officers.

Subsequently, joint forces confronted the remaining three terrorists in Safiyan Jakhole village, expanding their operations to the higher terrains of Kathua and Rajouri.

A brief skirmish occurred on Friday between security forces and terrorists in the Billawar area of Kathua district.

The upper regions of Kathua, bordering Kishtwar, have seen heightened security measures due to targeted attacks by terrorists supported by Pakistan.

To prevent hit-and-run assaults, Para commandos and CRPF personnel have been deployed in elevated areas and dense forests.

The presence of foreign mercenaries in the border districts of Poonch, Rajouri, and Kathua has led joint forces to adapt their strategies.

This revised approach focuses on neutralizing terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers, who, as stated by Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, are integral to the Pakistan-backed terror network.
