The incident occurred just after midnight at the Arbol Gordo fountain in the historic Salamanca province, close to the Portugal border, where a large crowd had gathered to commemorate Spain's 1-0 extra-time win against Argentina in the World Cup final.

As reported by regional emergency services, the upper part of the fountain collapsed onto the crowd, resulting in the tragic death of the teenager and injuries to two others.

Condolences from Local Authorities

In a heartfelt statement, the Town Hall of Ciudad Rodrigo expressed its sorrow over the incident, stating, "The entire city feels this loss and stands with the family and friends of the minor in their time of grief... What should have been a celebration of the Spanish national team's World Cup victory has turned into a tragedy."

This unfortunate event has overshadowed the nationwide celebrations following Spain's second FIFA World Cup title, which they won 16 years after their first triumph in 2010.

Spain clinched the championship with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Argentina at the New York/New Jersey Stadium on Sunday. Ferran Torres scored the crucial goal in the 106th minute of extra time after a tense match that remained scoreless through regular time.
