New York: Authorities in the United States have apprehended a 35-year-old woman of Indian descent in New Jersey, charging her with the murder of her two young sons.

The investigation indicates that Priyatharsini Natarajan, residing in Hillsborough, New Jersey, was responsible for the tragic deaths of her children on Tuesday.

According to Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald, a 911 call was made around 6:45 PM on January 13 by an individual believed to be the children's father.

The caller reported that upon returning home from work, he discovered his two boys, aged 5 and 7, unconscious, suggesting that his wife had harmed them. When police arrived, they found both the father and Natarajan at the scene.

Officers discovered the lifeless bodies of the two children in a bedroom. Despite the efforts of responding officers and medical personnel to revive them, their attempts were unsuccessful.

The children were pronounced dead at the location. Their identities have not been disclosed by authorities as they await confirmation from the Medical Examiner's Office.

Natarajan faces two counts of first-degree murder and an additional charge of third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.

She is currently in custody, having been taken by Hillsborough Police Officers to the Somerset County Jail, where she awaits a detention hearing.

McDonald stated that the investigation is being conducted by detectives from the Hillsborough Township Police Department, in collaboration with the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit, the Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Medical Investigators from the New Jersey Northern Regional Medical Examiner's Office.

A postmortem examination is set to be conducted by the Northern Regional Medical Examiner's Office to confirm the victims' identities and ascertain the cause and manner of their deaths.
