Tragic Incident in Uttar Pradesh Nursing Home Leads to Newborn's Death
Shocking Incident in Badaun District
A disturbing incident has emerged from Badaun district in Uttar Pradesh, where negligence and inhumanity in the healthcare system turned a family's joy into sorrow. At Radhika Nursing Home in Kadar Chowk, a staff member reportedly sat on the chest of a woman in labor, leading to the immediate death of her newborn.
The ordeal began in Lalasi Nagla village, where Chhote Lal took his wife, Krishna, to the Kadar Chowk Community Health Center (CHC) via an ambulance due to labor pains. Allegations have surfaced that the on-duty ANM Shashilata and nurse Babita, instead of providing treatment at the government hospital, colluded with MOIC Dr. Awadhesh Rathore to refer the patient to Radhika Nursing Home, which is reportedly run by Dr. Rathore's sister, Monika Rathore.
Inhumane Treatment and Newborn's Demise
Upon arrival at the nursing home, the family was allegedly asked to deposit ₹15,000. As the delivery process commenced in the afternoon, the staff reportedly crossed all limits of cruelty. Family members claim that during delivery, a female staff member sat on the patient's chest and forcefully pressed her abdomen, resulting in the newborn's death immediately after birth.
Demand for Money in Exchange for the Body
When the family learned of the newborn's death, chaos ensued. It is alleged that the nursing home staff not only threatened the family but also insisted that they would not release the mother or the deceased infant's body until the full payment was made. Outraged by this insensitivity, the family began protesting outside the nursing home.
Administrative Action: MOIC Removed, Hospital Sealed
In light of the seriousness of the situation, the SDM and CO arrived at the scene with a heavy police presence. District Magistrate (DM) Avnish Rai promptly formed a three-member investigation committee, including the SDM, CO, and MOIC. Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Mohan Jha stated that while the nursing home was registered, no doctor was present, and standards were blatantly ignored. As a result, Dr. Awadhesh Rathore, the in-charge of Kadar Chowk CHC, has been transferred immediately. The nursing home has been sealed, and legal action is being initiated against it. The newborn's body has been sent for post-mortem, and the mother has been admitted to the district hospital. This significant negligence by the health department has once again highlighted the ongoing commission issues between government and private hospitals.
