Tragic Incident in South Delhi: Mother Allegedly Kills Daughters Before Attempting Suicide

Shocking Family Tragedy in Malviya Nagar

New Delhi, March 7, 2026 — A heartbreaking incident has occurred in the Malviya Nagar area of South Delhi, leaving the entire city in shock. Initial police investigations reveal that a mother allegedly murdered her two adult daughters before attempting to take her own life. The case appears to be linked to family disputes, a troubled marriage, financial difficulties, and profound loneliness.

The tragic event unfolded around 6:10 PM on Thursday when relatives, unable to contact the family, alerted the police. Upon arrival, officers found the door of the house in F-Block locked from the inside. After breaking in, they discovered the body of a 33-year-old daughter in one room, with a pillow placed over her face, while the other room contained the body of a 28-year-old daughter, whose neck was entangled with a scarf or rope. Both sisters are believed to have died from asphyxiation or strangulation.

In a third room, their mother, approximately 54-55 years old, was found unconscious. She was immediately transported to the AIIMS Trauma Center, where she is currently receiving treatment and remains in critical condition. Authorities suspect that the mother first killed her daughters and then attempted to hang herself or use another method to end her life, but survived.

Reasons Behind the Incident According to police sources, the mother, identified as Sunita Arora (name subject to verification), had been embroiled in marital disputes for an extended period. Their relationship deteriorated further after the COVID-19 pandemic. Discontent with her husband's family, ongoing arguments, and emotional distance led her into deep depression. Financial struggles compounded the situation, as the family relied on others for support, faced job instability, and had outstanding rent issues. The mother was grappling with feelings of isolation and despair, particularly as one of her daughters had a disability that required care. Neighbors reported that she was once very nurturing, rarely leaving the house, and spent most of her time with her daughters, but her behavior had changed in recent days.

The police stated that the husband had informed the authorities in conjunction with relatives. The mother's statement has not yet been recorded, but forensic teams and the crime branch are actively investigating. The autopsy report and other evidence will clarify the sequence of events.

This incident highlights the escalating stress within families, the neglect of mental health issues, and the severe pressures of financial strain. The police have registered a case under charges of murder and incitement to suicide.
