In a shocking incident in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, a father accused of raping his minor daughter took his own life while in police custody. Following the incident, the deceased's relatives visited the police station, alleging harassment from the in-laws and claiming that a false case had been filed against him. Details of the Incident
The father, aged 38, was arrested on Wednesday night after his 16-year-old daughter filed a rape complaint against him at the Namli police station. According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Kishore Patanwala, the man's body was discovered hanging from a pipe connected to the toilet early Thursday morning. It was reported that he used his pajama string to commit suicide. The local Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Vivek Sonkar, stated that a thorough investigation is underway regarding the circumstances of the suicide.
CCTV Footage Reveals Timeline
CCTV footage showed the accused sitting in the police lockup until around 3 AM. When the duty officer checked the footage at approximately 4 AM, he found the man hanging. Upon arrival at the scene, it was confirmed that he had hanged himself using a water pipe and his clothing. The body was subsequently examined and sent for post-mortem at Ratlam Medical College.
Family Accusations
In the aftermath of the tragedy, the deceased's family accused the in-laws of harassment and claimed that the case against him was fabricated. They asserted that the deceased had previously lodged a complaint against his in-laws, which led to his daughter filing an FIR in collaboration with her mother.
Police Inquiry Continues
The deceased's mother and sister have also leveled allegations of mental harassment against his wife, daughter, and brother-in-law. The police have summoned the wife, daughter, and brother-in-law for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.
