In a shocking incident early Thursday, a woman constable lost her life after being struck by a speeding Scorpio SUV on the four-lane Atal Path, falling under the jurisdiction of the Sri Krishna Puri police station. Authorities reported that during the midnight hours between Wednesday and Thursday, the police patrol was conducting routine vehicle checks near Sri Krishna Puri in Patna when the collision occurred, resulting in the death of the female officer and serious injuries to two other officers.
The team, consisting of a sub-inspector, an assistant sub-inspector, and the woman constable, was inspecting a car when the speeding Scorpio crashed into them, leaving all three officers critically injured. Although the driver fled the scene, police apprehended him later, identifying him as Nikhil, the son of a land revenue officer. It was revealed that Nikhil had previously been fined for speeding.
Police Response and Political Reactions
Two individuals from the vehicle were detained at the scene. Senior police officials arrived shortly after the incident, and the injured officers were transported to a private hospital. Senior officer Avakash Kumar from Patna police stated, "Three security personnel stationed at Sri Krishna Puri were conducting vehicle checks when a speeding car collided with them from behind, injuring all three. The driver managed to escape immediately after the accident." The condition of the other two injured officers is reported to be stable.
This incident has sparked controversy, with opposition leaders questioning the law and order situation in Bihar. Pappu Yadav, a Member of Parliament from Purnia, attributed the rising criminalization in politics to the electorate's responsibility for bringing criminals into power.
