Heartbreaking Event in Keonjhar District


Patana: In a tragic turn of events, a 19-year-old woman from the Patana block in Keonjhar district took her own life by hanging on Sunday. This heartbreaking incident occurred after her husband denied her a mere Rs 40 for transportation to visit her parents.


The victim, identified as Janaki Munda, was married to Bidyadhar Munda and resided in Gohira village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Khadikapada panchayat and Patana police.


As per police reports, Janaki requested Rs 40 from her husband to cover her travel expenses to her parental home. Following his refusal, a heated argument ensued between them. Distressed, Janaki left their home early in the morning and was later discovered hanging from a mahua tree in a nearby forest, according to initial investigations.


The Patana police have registered a case of unnatural death (27/25) and have transferred the body to her family after conducting a post-mortem at the Patana community health center. The investigation is ongoing, as confirmed by Patana IIC Manas Kumar Mahakul.
