A distressing event unfolded in Odisha where a five-year-old boy spent an entire night in the freezing cold, vigilantly watching over his deceased father and unconscious mother. This incident took place in the Deogarh district, and it came to light when the child was seen seeking help from passersby near the forest on Sunday morning.

Circumstances Surrounding the Incident

According to police reports, the child's parents, Dushmant Majhi and Rinki Majhi, residents of Jianantpali village under the Kundheigola police station, ingested pesticides following a domestic dispute while returning home on a motorcycle. They parked their bike by the roadside and walked approximately one kilometer into the woods, where it is suspected that they consumed the toxic substance.

Police Response and Child's Condition

Dheeraj Chopdar, the Additional Superintendent of Police in Deogarh, stated that Dushmant died within an hour, while Rinki fell unconscious. The boy remained by their side throughout the night and emerged at dawn to alert people. Local residents quickly notified the police at the Kundheigola station, leading to the rescue of the family. They were transported to the Chhendipada hospital in Angul district, where Dushmant was pronounced dead, and Rinki later succumbed to her condition. Despite having been exposed to the pesticide, the child is reported to be in good health and has been placed in the care of his grandparents after receiving initial treatment.
