Tragic Incident in Ludhiana: Retired Soldier Kills Son and Takes His Own Life
A Shocking Family Tragedy
Late Sunday night in Ludhiana, Punjab, a retired soldier fatally shot his son before taking his own life by ingesting poison. According to police reports, 60-year-old Surinder Singh shot his 40-year-old son, Gursharan Singh, following a heated argument during dinner.
Police sources indicated that Surinder had intentions of remarrying and proposed this idea during the meal, which led to a dispute between father and son. In a fit of rage, Surinder chased Gursharan down the street and shot him. After leaving his injured son in the street, Surinder returned home, locked himself inside, and consumed a toxic substance.
The Station House Officer (SHO) of Sarabha Nagar police station, Vijay Kumar, stated, "After the argument escalated, Surinder fired at his son with a 12-bore shotgun, but it initially misfired. Gursharan attempted to escape, but Surinder pursued him and shot him. He then abandoned his son and returned home to take poison."
Witnesses reported seeing Gursharan lying injured in the street, prompting them to alert the police. Upon breaking down the door, officers found Surinder unconscious inside. Both were rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, they succumbed to their injuries.
The inspector noted that neighbors often observed the two arguing during dinner time. "It appears both were under the influence of alcohol. We found food on the plates, indicating that the argument escalated during the meal. We are in contact with their daughters to arrange for the bodies to be handed over for the last rites after the post-mortem," he added. Surinder was charged with murder for shooting his son, but he died during treatment.
