Tragic Incident in Kota: Two Drug Traffickers Drown in Chambal River

Fatal Attempt to Evade Police in Kota

In a tragic event on Tuesday morning, two suspected drug traffickers drowned in the Chambal River while trying to escape from the police in Kota district, Rajasthan. Authorities reported that following the incident, 117 kilograms of narcotics were discovered in nine bags hidden in the bushes along the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.

The deceased have been identified as Chain Singh Lodha from Baran district in Rajasthan and Raj Singh from Sazipur Kala in Sangrur district, Punjab. Officials confirmed that their bodies have been retrieved from the river, and their families have been notified.

The incident occurred early Tuesday when the District Special Team (DST) of Kota Rural Police was conducting routine vehicle checks near the Simaliya toll plaza on National Highway-27. During this operation, they signaled a car with Uttar Pradesh registration to stop, but the driver accelerated towards the expressway.

According to police, they pursued the vehicle for approximately 25 kilometers. During the chase, the suspects allegedly discarded nine bags filled with narcotics into the bushes along the expressway.

As the police closed in, the suspects abandoned their car on the Chambal River bridge and jumped into the river to evade capture, resulting in their drowning. Rescue teams later recovered their bodies and transported them to the mortuary at a hospital in Sultanpur. Additional Superintendent of Police Ramkalyan Meena stated that the police also seized the car and the nine bags of narcotics from the scene.

The investigation revealed that the bags contained a total of 117 kilograms of opium.
