In Ramgarh district of Jharkhand, a man accused of sexually assaulting an indigenous woman jumped into a river in an attempt to escape police custody, resulting in his death. This incident has led to heightened tensions in the area as reported by local authorities.


Details of the Case

Authorities confirmed that the body of Aftab Ansari, who worked at a clothing store, was recovered from the Damodar River. On July 23, members of a right-wing organization assaulted Ansari and handed him over to the police. However, the following day, he leaped into the river to evade arrest.


Police Response

In the aftermath of the incident, Kranti Kumar Garideshi, the Inspector General of Police for the Bokaro range, suspended Ramgarh police station chief Pramod Kumar Singh along with three constables for negligence in duty.

According to SDPO Parameshwar Prasad, Ansari was detained on allegations of sexual assault against a woman. The police have arrested Rajesh Sinha, a member of the organization, for allegedly posting an offensive video on social media that aimed to disrupt communal harmony. Following the arrest, BJP MLA Roshanlal Chaudhary staged a protest outside the Burkunda police station, demanding Sinha's immediate release.
