Fatal Rockfall in Reasi District

In a heartbreaking incident in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir, a rockfall from a hillside resulted in the deaths of a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and his son, while his wife and two others sustained injuries. This information was confirmed by local police on Friday.


The tragedy occurred on Thursday night in the Salukh Ikhtar Nala area as Rajinder Singh Rana was traveling with his family from Dharmari to their ancestral village, Pattiyan. Officials reported that a large boulder, dislodged due to a landslide, struck their vehicle, leading to the immediate fatalities of the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service officer and his son.


Authorities stated that the injured individuals were transported to a nearby hospital for initial treatment, with the severely injured being referred to the district hospital in Reasi. Officer Rana, who was part of the 2011 batch, was serving as the SDM of Ramnagar. Previously, a similar incident in Eastern Ladakh had resulted in the deaths of two soldiers when rocks fell on their military vehicle. The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has expressed condolences to the family of the SDM.
