A tragic event unfolded today in the Aut region of Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district when a 38-year-old woman lost her life after a large boulder fell from a rain-soaked hillside, striking her near the Shani Temple. This incident highlights the severe dangers posed by the ongoing monsoon rains that have been affecting the area.
The deceased, Sukhveer Kaur, hailed from Nalagarh in Solan district and was traveling with her family at the time of the accident.
As per police reports, the family had stopped their vehicle near the Shani Temple after Sukhveer Kaur felt unwell. She exited the car to vomit when, in a shocking turn of events, a massive boulder broke loose from the hillside and fell on her, resulting in fatal injuries.
The horrifying scene unfolded before her family, leaving them in shock. Local residents quickly came to assist and notified the police and district officials. Emergency services arrived promptly and transported the injured woman to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Authorities have taken custody of the body for a post-mortem examination and are proceeding with legal actions.
This incident occurred during a period of heavy rainfall in Mandi district, where saturated hillsides have become increasingly unstable, leading to landslides, rockfalls, and road closures in various areas. Officials have issued warnings about the heightened risk of slope collapses, especially along highways and mountain roads.
The district administration has advised both locals and visitors to exercise extreme caution while traveling during the current monsoon season, recommending that they refrain from stopping vehicles near unstable hill areas and landslide-prone zones.
This latest tragedy adds to the growing number of fatalities linked to the monsoon in Himachal Pradesh, where persistent rains have disrupted transportation and rendered many mountain routes perilous, prompting authorities to maintain a state of high alert.
