Tragic Incident in Deogarh: Man Arrested for Allegedly Setting Wife on Fire
Shocking Crime in Rengali Village
Deogarh: A 40-year-old individual has been taken into custody for allegedly murdering his wife by igniting her in Rengali village, located within the Barkote police jurisdiction of Deogarh district.
The victim, identified as Sabita Nayak, aged 34, succumbed to her injuries while receiving medical care at a hospital in Cuttack. She was married to Bijay Nayak.
According to police reports, the couple, who entered into a love marriage in 2009, often engaged in disputes, primarily due to their inability to conceive children. A heated argument escalated on Thursday evening, leading Bijay to allegedly douse Sabita with kerosene and set her on fire.
Sabita suffered severe burn injuries and was initially transported to a hospital in Pallahara. Subsequently, she was moved to Keonjhar and finally to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where she passed away during treatment.
Following a formal complaint lodged by Sabita’s father, Dinu Mohanta, from Tebhapala village under Pallahara police jurisdiction, the Barkote police initiated a murder investigation and detained Bijay for questioning.
A police team, led by Barkote IIC Mamata Panigrahi, along with forensic experts, visited the scene of the crime to gather evidence, including a partially burned saree. The investigation is currently ongoing.
