Tragic Incident in Agra: Young Man Dies After Being Set on Fire Over Love Dispute

A heartbreaking incident has emerged from Lohamandi in Agra, where a young man succumbed to his injuries after being set on fire due to a love affair dispute. The 25-year-old, identified as Chand, passed away on Wednesday night after suffering severe burns covering 80% of his body.

The tragic event unfolded on the night of February 27. Chand, an auto driver from Swaroop Colony, was returning home after dropping off a passenger. According to his family, he was confronted on Azampada Road by his alleged girlfriend Shabnam, along with her mother, brother, and another individual. Reports indicate that a heated argument ensued, during which Chand was forcibly pulled from his auto and assaulted. It is alleged that Shabnam and her relatives then doused him in petrol and set him ablaze before fleeing the scene.

Severe Burns and Hospitalization

Local residents, hearing his cries for help, alerted the police and rushed Chand to SN Medical College. His condition deteriorated, leading to his transfer to a private hospital's ICU. Medical professionals confirmed that 80% of his body had been burned. After battling for his life for seven days, he ultimately passed away on Wednesday night.

Family Protests on the Streets

Upon learning of Chand's death, his family lost their composure and staged a protest by blocking the road, vocally expressing their anger towards the police. They accused law enforcement of releasing the main suspects, Shabnam and Nagina, without taking appropriate action, allowing them to roam freely and threaten the victim's family. They criticized the police for their lackadaisical approach to the case.

Two-Year Relationship

Chand's brother, Shabeer, revealed that Chand and Shabnam had been in a relationship for the past two years. Originally from Mathura, Shabnam had married in Azampada but began living with her brother-in-law after her husband's death. During this time, her relationship with Chand developed, culminating in this tragic incident.

Police Response and Investigation

In response to the unrest, ACP Gaurav Singh arrived at the scene with a significant police presence. He assured the agitated family that the suspects would be apprehended soon, which helped to disperse the crowd. The police have sent the body for autopsy and are now pursuing charges of murder against the suspects.
