Alarming Case of Assault in Madhya Pradesh

In a distressing event in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, an 18-year-old cousin has been accused of raping a four-year-old girl. The police have apprehended the suspect following the incident.


Reports indicate that the assault occurred on June 23 in a village under the Uchehra police station's jurisdiction.


Details of the Incident


According to law enforcement officials, the accused enticed the young girl with Jamun fruit and led her into the bushes near the railway tracks, where the assault took place. Fortunately, some women nearby heard her cries and brought her back to her family.


Police Action and Victim's Condition


The police acted swiftly, arresting the suspect. The girl has been hospitalized and is currently reported to be in stable condition. Authorities have filed a case against the accused and initiated an investigation.


NHRC Responds to Gang Rape Case in Odisha


In a separate incident, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken notice of a report regarding the gang rape of a 20-year-old college student by nearly ten men at Gopalpur beach in Odisha's Ganjam district on June 15.


The NHRC stated that the victim was at the beach with a male companion to celebrate a festival when the assailants overpowered her friend and assaulted her.


Official Notices Issued


The Commission has deemed the allegations, if substantiated, to be a significant violation of human rights. Consequently, it has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police in Odisha, requesting a comprehensive report on the situation within two weeks.


This report should detail the investigation's progress, the victim's health status, and any support or compensation provided by state authorities.


Suspects Detained


As per reports from June 16, 2025, the victim was taken to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for a medical examination, and police have detained seven suspects in connection with the case.


Additionally, Odisha Congress President Bhakta Charan Das has publicly criticized the state government for its management of both the Gopalpur gang rape incident and a cholera outbreak, labeling both situations as indicative of severe administrative shortcomings.
