In the Nanaohta area of Saharanpur district, a tragic event occurred during Muharram, resulting in the death of one individual and leaving more than 75 others ill after consuming allegedly contaminated sharbat and food items, according to police reports.


Identification of the Deceased

The deceased has been identified as Shabi Haider, a 60-year-old resident of the Sheikhjadgan neighborhood within the Nanaohta police jurisdiction.


Details of the Incident

District Magistrate Manish Bansal stated that on Saturday evening, during a mourning procession in a neighborhood of Nanaohta, members of the Muslim community consumed biryani and sharbat. Following this, approximately 75 individuals began experiencing severe vomiting and other health issues.


Medical Response

Bansal mentioned that the affected individuals were promptly admitted to the primary health center and the district hospital. Unfortunately, Shabi Haider succumbed to food poisoning while being transported for medical treatment.


Investigation and Support

Samples of the food and drink items consumed during the procession have been sent for testing, and necessary medical assistance is being provided to the patients.
