Worker's Death Linked to Gas Leak at Nuclear Facility

A worker has tragically passed away following an incident involving a leak of hydrogen sulfide gas at the Rawatbhata Nuclear Power Plant (RAPS) in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan. Officials confirmed the news on Monday.

The deceased, identified as Dharmendra Lohar, along with four other workers employed by a contractor at RAPS, lost consciousness on October 25 during maintenance activities due to the gas leak. An official reported that the other four workers were discharged from the hospital after recovering.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shantilal Bunkar from Rawatbhata police station informed reporters that Lohar, who was on a ventilator, succumbed to his condition late Sunday night at a private hospital in Kota. He had been working as a contract laborer at the heavy water plant for approximately 15 to 20 years.

In the meantime, Lohar's sister has accused the plant management of negligence and is seeking financial assistance for the family.

The ASI also mentioned that an autopsy is being conducted at Maharaw Bhimsingh (MBS) Hospital in Kota, and the body will be handed over to the family once the procedure is completed.

According to officials, Lohar's sister, Seema Lohar, a resident of Bhainsroadgarh in Chittorgarh, has filed a complaint stating that her brother collapsed after exposure to the toxic gas. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
