Tragic Incident at Mandarmani Beach: Tourists Swept Away by Strong Currents
Drowning Incident at Mandarmani Beach
Bhograi: A tragic incident unfolded at Mandarmani beach near Digha, where three tourists were caught in strong currents while swimming. One individual lost their life, another was rescued, and the third remains unaccounted for as of the latest updates. This unfortunate event transpired despite the local authorities' repeated advisories against entering the water due to hazardous conditions stemming from a low-pressure system over the southwest Bay of Bengal. This weather pattern is moving northwest, intensifying monsoon currents along the Odisha-West Bengal coastline and resulting in moderate to heavy rainfall since Tuesday.
The three friends, hailing from Barasat in West Bengal, were enjoying a swim when they were suddenly pulled away by powerful waves. Local volunteers utilized a speedboat to locate two of the individuals and transported them to a nearby medical facility. Tragically, a 22-year-old was pronounced dead upon arrival, while a 21-year-old is currently in stable condition. The third individual, aged 19, is still missing. This incident is not isolated; a similar tragedy occurred on July 16 of the previous year when five Bengali tourists were swept away at the same beach, resulting in one fatality and four rescues. Additionally, a recent drowning incident near Udaypur beach involved two Bengali tourists and one Odia woman. Local residents have voiced concerns regarding the lack of an official report filed at the Talsari Marine Police Station concerning this latest incident.
