Incident Overview


Keonjhar: A 10-year-old student from Deobandh Primary School in the Ghatagaon block of Keonjhar district suffered a serious head injury when plaster fell from the ceiling on the first day back to school after the summer break. The child, identified as Divyanshu Mohanty from Sanajiuli village, was reportedly sent home without receiving any medical attention, leading to public outrage and protests demanding accountability from the school administration.


Official Response

Purna Chandra Bariha, the District Education Officer, confirmed that an investigation has been initiated, and appropriate actions will follow the inquiry. Khageswar Baral, the Block Development Officer, along with Sanjay Kumar Palei, the Assistant Block Education Officer, visited the school to meet with parents and students. Harekrushna Nayak, the Block Education Officer, noted that the school, which has an enrollment of 40 students and two teachers, operates in an aging building. A proposal for its reconstruction has already been submitted to the Public Works department.
