Tragic Discovery at Sports Hostel

On Thursday, two young female athletes were discovered hanging in their room at the Indian Sports Authority (SAI) hostel. Authorities reported the incident, identifying the deceased as 17-year-old Sandra from Kozhikode and 15-year-old Vaishnavi from Thiruvananthapuram.

According to police, Sandra was an athletics trainee in the 12th grade, while Vaishnavi was a kabaddi player studying in the 10th grade. The alarming situation came to light around 5 AM when other girls in the hostel noticed their absence from the morning training session.

When repeated knocks on the door went unanswered, hostel officials forced entry and found both girls hanging from the ceiling fans in their room.

Police revealed that Vaishnavi had been staying in another room but had spent the night in Sandra's room. Other residents of the hostel had seen them earlier that morning. The Kollam East police have initiated an investigation into the incident.

Authorities stated that the cause of death remains unknown, and no suicide note was found in the room. An officer mentioned that they will be recording statements from other athletes, coaches, and family members present at the hostel. The bodies will be handed over to the families following the post-mortem examination.
