New Delhi, Oct 24: A tragic event unfolded on Saturday at Sarvodaya Bal/Balika Vidyalaya in the Krishna Nagar area of East Delhi, where a Class 12 student reportedly set herself ablaze after dousing herself with a flammable liquid, according to officials.
The incident caused widespread alarm among both teachers and students, leading school authorities to launch an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the young girl's death.
Authorities indicated that several suspicious items were discovered in the student's backpack, although the specifics of these items have not been officially disclosed. The police are currently looking into the events that led to this unfortunate incident.
Officials reported that a call was made to the Police Control Room (PCR) regarding a fire at the school, located in the Shahdara district of Delhi.
"Upon receiving the alert, officers from PS Krishna Nagar quickly arrived at the scene, where they found an approximately 18-year-old female student in a severely burned state behind the school guard room," officials stated.
They also mentioned that various materials were collected during the initial investigation at the site and from the deceased student's bag, which are now being analyzed as part of the ongoing inquiry.
"During the preliminary investigation, certain items were retrieved from the scene and the girl's school bag," they noted.
The Delhi Police's Crime Team was summoned to the school to conduct a thorough examination of the scene, assess the circumstances, and gather pertinent evidence that could clarify the timeline of events leading to the tragedy.
"The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing, and further inquiries are being conducted," the police confirmed.
Additionally, a fire brigade team and police personnel were present at the school as the investigation commenced.
The police are meticulously reviewing the evidence and materials collected from the scene to ascertain the details surrounding the student's death.
