Tragic Incident at CRPF Camp in Nagaon: Officer Shoots Colleagues and Himself

Nagaon, Aug 4: A tragic shooting incident occurred at a CRPF camp in Nagaon district, Assam, where an officer fatally shot two of his colleagues and injured another before taking his own life.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQ) Paramita Sarkar, the shooting unfolded at the 34 Battalion camp in Katimari around 7 am. The officer, ASI/GD Ballani Premabaram, was on duty at the main entrance when he opened fire on his fellow personnel.
Premabaram subsequently turned the weapon on himself, resulting in his death at the scene, as confirmed by the DSP.
"The two deceased personnel, HV/GD Vishnu Prasad Baghel and SI/GD Ramnawal Singh Yadav, died instantly," Sarkar reported.
Another officer, ASI/Mane Govind Sripul, sustained injuries and was transported to a private medical facility for treatment.
Nagaon Senior Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das elaborated on the events, noting that Premabaram, originally from Andhra Pradesh, was found without his service weapon while on duty. He then retrieved an INSAS rifle from the Guard Room and proceeded to the rear of the Quarter Guard, where he shot Baghel, who later succumbed to his injuries.
Following this, he targeted Yadav, who was present for document verification from Lucknow, resulting in Yadav's immediate death as well. Das added that Premabaram also shot Sripul, inflicting serious injuries.
After the shooting, Premabaram entered the B/171 Barrack and took his own life. The injured officer was later referred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.
Senior officials from both the CRPF and local police quickly arrived at the scene, and an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
The police are collaborating with the CRPF to look into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
