Fatal Accident at Avsaaneshwar Temple
A tragic event unfolded on Monday at the Avsaaneshwar Temple located in the Haidarganj area of Barabanki district, Uttar Pradesh, where a fallen electric wire, reportedly damaged by monkeys, led to chaos, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to over 32 devotees, according to officials.
The police reported that during the ritual of water offering on the auspicious Monday of Sawan, an electric wire fell, causing a current to surge through a tin shed, which startled the attendees.
This incident triggered a stampede within the temple premises.
Authorities confirmed that at least 32 devotees sustained injuries, with two fatalities. The deceased were identified as 22-year-old Prashant from Mubarakpura village in the Lonikatara police jurisdiction and another 30-year-old devotee, both of whom succumbed to their injuries at the Trivediganj Community Health Center (CHC).
Officials indicated that a total of 10 injured individuals were brought to the CHC, with five of them referred to higher-level medical facilities due to their critical conditions.
Additionally, 26 injured persons were admitted to the Haidarganj CHC, with one in serious condition being transferred to another hospital.
Following the incident, panic ensued in the temple area and surrounding locality. Administrative officials arrived promptly to manage the situation.
District Magistrate Shashank Tripathi stated that the electric wire was severed by monkeys during the water offering ceremony, leading to a current surge in three sheds, which caused the stampede.
He confirmed that two individuals lost their lives and more than two dozen were injured. The injured are receiving treatment at the CHC and district hospital, and he assured that the situation is now under control. Subsequently, devotees resumed their prayers at the temple.
