Heartbreaking Case in Bargarh District

Bhubaneswar: A tragic event unfolded in Odisha's Bargarh district when a 13-year-old schoolgirl, who reportedly set herself ablaze, succumbed to her injuries at a Burla hospital on Monday, according to police reports.

Bolangir Superintendent of Police Abilash G confirmed that the girl passed away at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances that led to this heartbreaking act.

The police have initiated an unnatural death case following a complaint from the girl's family, and a three-member team has been assigned to look into the matter. They have also retrieved a video related to the incident.

Northern Range Inspector General Himanshu Lal stated that the girl had been residing in a hostel but had visited her maternal uncle's home, where she took this drastic action.

Earlier that day, villagers found her in a severely burned state on a football field in Phiringmal village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Gaisilat police station.

She was immediately transported to the district headquarters hospital in Bargarh and subsequently transferred to VIMSAR in Burla.

This incident is part of a disturbing trend, as it follows the deaths of three other women due to self-immolation since July 12.

On that date, a 20-year-old college student in Balasore set herself on fire on campus and died two days later at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

On July 19, another minor girl was allegedly set ablaze by three individuals in Balanga, succumbing to her injuries at AIIMS Delhi on August 2.

The third incident occurred on August 6 in Kendrapara district, where the charred remains of a third-year undergraduate student were discovered at her residence in the Pattamundai area.
