Tragic IED Blast Claims Life of Police Officer in Chhattisgarh

Sukma, June 9: A tragic incident occurred in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Monday, resulting in the death of an additional superintendent of police and injuries to two other officers due to an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Naxalites, according to police reports.
Government Response
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his sorrow over the loss of Additional Superintendent of Police (Konta Division) Akash Rao Girepunje, stating that those responsible for the attack will face repercussions.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, who oversees the home department, confirmed that Girepunje, a 2013-batch officer, was martyred in the explosion.
Sharma urged Naxalites to abandon violence and integrate into society to aid in its development.
Details of the Incident
The explosion occurred near Dondra village on the Konta-Errabor road while Girepunje and his team were conducting foot patrols following reports of a torched earth-mover machine in the vicinity, as stated by an official.
Upon arrival at the scene, the IED detonated, injuring ASP Girepunje, Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Bhanupratap Chandrakar, and Inspector Sonal Gwala, the Station House Officer of Konta police station.
All injured personnel were promptly transported to Konta Hospital for initial medical care.
Casualties and Honors
Girepunje suffered severe injuries from the blast and unfortunately succumbed during treatment. The 42-year-old officer, originally from Raipur district, had been serving as ASP in Konta since last year and was recognized for his bravery in Naxal-affected regions.
Meanwhile, the other two injured officers are reported to be stable and are being airlifted to Raipur for further treatment.
The remains of Girepunje are being sent to Raipur for his final rites and a guard of honor.

In a message on X, CM Sai expressed his condolences for Girepunje's martyrdom in the IED blast, labeling it a cowardly act by Naxalites. He emphasized the need for proper medical care for the injured officers.
Sharma remarked on the ongoing struggle against Naxalites in Chhattisgarh, asserting that their desperate actions will lead to their downfall in the state.
He reiterated the government's stance of preferring dialogue over violence, encouraging Naxalites to join the mainstream and benefit from rehabilitation programs.
A police statement affirmed that the government, police, and citizens stand united with Girepunje's family during this difficult time, pledging to continue the fight against the outlawed CPI (Maoist).
