Bengaluru, July 16: A tragic incident occurred on Thursday morning when a 22-year-old man lost his life after his head became trapped in a service lift at a hotel located in the Jayanagar area of Bengaluru.

The victim, identified as Rajesh from Dharwad, suffered severe head injuries around 9 a.m. within the jurisdiction of the Jayanagar police station.

According to police reports, Rajesh's neck and head were caught while the lift was moving between the first and second floors of the hotel.

Initial investigations indicated that the lift involved was an outdated service elevator equipped with iron grills and did not have safety doors. Authorities noted that the lift could be operated even with the grills open and was mainly used by hotel staff for transporting goods.

It is believed that Rajesh entered the service lift and, for reasons still under investigation, leaned or extended his head outside the grill while the lift was in motion. As the lift ascended, his head struck a concrete beam, resulting in fatal injuries.

Rajesh died instantly due to the impact, as confirmed by the police.

Law enforcement arrived at the hotel shortly after being notified and conducted an initial inquiry. Officials stated that there was no indication of foul play, suggesting the death was accidental.

Authorities are also looking into the circumstances surrounding Rajesh's visit to the hotel, as his connection to the establishment is unclear. Police have reached out to his family in Dharwad and are awaiting their arrival.

A case has been filed at the Jayanagar police station, and further investigations are ongoing. This incident has reignited concerns regarding the safety of outdated lifts and the absence of safety measures in commercial buildings throughout the city.

Earlier in July, a 15-year-old boy tragically lost his life in a hydraulic lift accident at a hardware store on Tannery Road, Bengaluru. The boy had been brought from Mumbai for the school holidays but was allegedly forced into dangerous labor instead of receiving promised computer training.

In May, a 28-year-old employee at an Instamart facility in Mangaluru's Kuntikan area also died due to a lift malfunction.
