Tragic Hospital Corridor Collapse in Jharkhand Claims Three Lives

Jamshedpur: The death toll has reached three following the collapse of a corridor at a state-run hospital in East Singhbhum district, Jharkhand, with one additional body recovered on Sunday, according to officials.

Two individuals injured in the incident are currently receiving medical care.

Jharkhand's Health Minister, Irfan Ansari, confirmed that three fatalities resulted from the hospital corridor's collapse.

The incident occurred around 4 PM on Saturday when a section of the second-floor corridor in the medicine department of MGM Hospital in Sakchi, Jamshedpur, gave way, trapping a total of 15 people, as reported by police.

Nakul Choudhary, the superintendent of MGM Hospital, stated that two individuals sustained injuries, including an elderly woman in critical condition who was transferred to Tata Main Hospital.

Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal noted that twelve individuals, including the injured, were rescued from the scene and received immediate medical attention.

A committee has been established to investigate the incident, with a report expected within 48 hours.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren has also mandated an inquiry into the corridor's collapse.

Following the chief minister's directive, Ansari, along with the additional chief secretary of the health department, visited the site.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local authorities are actively involved in rescue operations. A comprehensive investigation has been initiated, and strict measures will be enforced against those responsible within a week, as stated by Ansari on social media.

He also announced that the government would provide compensation of ₹5 lakh to the families of each deceased and ₹50,000 to each injured individual.
