New Delhi, April 28: A tragic hit-and-run incident resulted in the deaths of a 20-year-old and a 14-year-old in the Parliament Street area of New Delhi during the night between Monday and Tuesday, as reported by officials.
The collision occurred within the jurisdiction of the Parliament Street police station after authorities received a PCR call regarding a serious accident late at night.
The victims were returning home after attending an IPL match when the incident took place.
Officials indicated that the crash happened at the Mahadev Road T-point on Ashoka Road, directly across from the PNB Complex, where a motorcycle collided with a goods vehicle under circumstances that are currently being investigated.
Upon arrival, police found two young males unconscious on the roadway. They were quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel pronounced them dead upon arrival.
A District Crime Team from the Delhi Police was dispatched to the scene to conduct a forensic examination and gather evidence to reconstruct the events leading up to the accident.
The bodies were subsequently moved to the mortuary at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for further examination.
The deceased have been identified as Yagya Bhatia, a 20-year-old BSc student from Ashok Nagar, and his cousin Abhav Bhatia, a 14-year-old school student, also from Ashok Nagar.
They were on their way home after watching an IPL match. At approximately 10:30 p.m., Abhav had assured his father over the phone that he would be home within half an hour, just moments before the accident occurred.
Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras for potential leads. Initial investigations suggest that this may be a hit-and-run case.
A case has been filed under the appropriate legal sections based on the testimony of an eyewitness who was present during the incident.
The families of the victims have been notified, according to police reports.
Officials have identified the vehicle involved in the collision and are actively working to locate and apprehend the driver responsible for this tragic event.
Investigations are ongoing, with authorities examining all facets of the incident.
