Bhubaneswar: A tragic hit-and-run incident in Bhubaneswar has resulted in the death of a woman who was critically injured alongside her two young children. The incident occurred on Saturday evening when Rebati Raul, along with her eight-year-old daughter and three-year-old son, was crossing National Highway-16 in the Patrapada area.
The collision was severe, leading to the immediate death of Rebati's daughter, Jagruti, while she was receiving treatment at AIIMS hospital. Unfortunately, Rebati succumbed to her injuries on Monday, as confirmed by local authorities.
In response to this heartbreaking loss, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his condolences and announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the family of the deceased.
Following the news of the mother and daughter's deaths, local residents organized a protest, blocking NH-16 for nearly two hours on Monday afternoon. This demonstration resulted in significant traffic disruptions, with numerous vehicles stranded on both sides of the highway.
Protesters voiced their frustration, questioning why the driver responsible for the accident had not yet been apprehended. After receiving assurances from police officials, the demonstrators eventually lifted the blockade.
