Tragic Goa Nightclub Fire Claims Lives of Three from Assam
Devastating Incident in Goa
Guwahati, Dec 8: Family members of three individuals from Assam who perished in the recent Goa nightclub fire have expressed that their loved ones were compelled to seek work in the distant state due to a lack of job opportunities in their hometown.
The victims were employed at the nightclub when a fire erupted, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least 25 individuals and injuries to six others shortly after midnight on Sunday.
Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, expressed his sorrow on social media, stating, "I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives in the Arpora fire incident in Goa, where we lost three of our own: Shri Rahul Tanti from Cachar, Shri Manojit Mal from Cachar, and Shri Diganta Patir from Dhemaji. My heartfelt condolences go out to the grieving families, and I pray for the swift recovery of the injured."
The remains of Manojit Mal (24) and Rahul Tanti (60), both of whom worked in the nightclub's kitchen, have been returned to their relatives, who were also in Goa. Meanwhile, Diganta Patir's elder brother, currently in Kerala, has traveled to Goa to retrieve his body.
Patir served as a cook at the nightclub.
Families of the deceased have voiced their concerns, stating they have not received any updates from authorities regarding the arrangements for repatriating the bodies.
The families of Mal and Tanti have claimed that their children were driven to leave their village and state due to the absence of employment opportunities.
Both Mal and Tanti are part of the tea tribe community, and local villagers have reported that the conditions in the tea gardens of Barak Valley are dire, forcing young people to seek work far from home.
Patir's mother also mentioned that her sons had to work in distant states like Goa and Kerala because Dhemaji, a district plagued by floods and erosion, offers no viable means of livelihood.
