Incident Overview

A fishing boat carrying 14 individuals capsized near Neendakara in Kollam, Kerala, on Friday, resulting in the death of one fisherman. Authorities have identified the deceased as Rajeevan.


According to officials, Rajeevan was retrieved from the sea but unfortunately could not be revived. The missing persons have been identified as Radhakrishnan and his son, Gautam, and search operations are currently underway to locate them.


Details of the Capsizing

The boat, named 'Shreekrishna', overturned while navigating through rough waters near the Neendakara breakwater. Fortunately, the remaining 11 passengers were rescued, with some managing to swim to safety.


Officials noted that adverse weather conditions and high waves have complicated the rescue efforts.


Investigation and Regulations

The police have registered a case of unnatural death and have initiated an investigation into the incident. Additionally, the annual 52-day ban on deep-sea trawler fishing in Kerala, which is imposed during the monsoon season, is set to conclude on Friday night.
