Devastating Explosion in Hunan Province

Beijing: A catastrophic explosion at a fireworks factory in Hunan province has resulted in the deaths of at least 21 individuals, with 61 others sustaining injuries, as reported by officials on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday afternoon at a facility run by Huasheng fireworks manufacturing and display company, located in Liuyang, a city under the jurisdiction of Changsha, the provincial capital.

Footage shared on Chinese social media platforms depicted extensive damage, with destruction visible over several kilometers.

Over 480 rescue personnel, organized into five teams, have been mobilized for the emergency response, including the deployment of three rescue robots.

According to rescue officials, the fatalities stand at 21, while the injured have been swiftly transported to medical facilities for urgent care. A second phase of search operations is currently in progress.

China is recognized as a major producer and exporter of fireworks.

Due to the proximity of the explosion site to two black powder storage facilities, rescuers have evacuated local residents and established a safety perimeter to mitigate the risk of further incidents, as reported by the state-run Xinhua news agency.

Experts from the Ministry of Emergency Management have been sent to the location to assist with the rescue operations.

Authorities have detained the individual responsible for the company, and an investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway.
