Incident at Church Festival in Kerala

A tragic incident occurred during a festival at a church in the Ernakulam district of Kerala on Sunday, resulting in the death of a 68-year-old man due to a firework explosion. Another individual sustained severe burns, according to police reports.


The deceased has been identified as Ravi, a resident of Kadathi, while the injured party, James, aged 46, hails from Valakkon. The explosion took place around 8:30 AM at St. Peter and St. Paul Church, located near Muvattupuzha.


According to the police, Ravi was filling a frame with explosives for the fireworks display when an accidental detonation occurred. This incident left Ravi critically injured, and James suffered extensive burns. Both were rushed to the hospital, where Ravi unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.


Authorities have reported that James is in stable condition despite his serious burns. In connection with this incident, the police have filed charges against Father Biju Varghese, the parish priest, along with officials Sabu Paul and Aldo C.M. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Indian Explosives Act.
