Bhopal/Dewas, May 14: A tragic explosion at a firecracker factory in Tonkkala, located in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas district, has resulted in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries.


Authorities reported that several survivors are in critical condition and have been transported to local hospitals for urgent care.


Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his sorrow over the incident, stating on his X account, “The news of the explosion at the firecracker factory in Tonk Kala, Dewas district, which has led to loss of life and injuries, is deeply distressing. I have instructed the district in-charge, Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda, the Home Secretary, and senior officials to visit the site of the tragedy.”


He also announced that an investigation into the explosion has been initiated.


The state government has pledged financial support of Rs 4 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives and has ensured that the injured will receive free medical treatment. Many of the injured have been referred to Indore for specialized care.


The explosion's intensity was such that it reverberated throughout the neighborhood, causing nearby homes to shake.


Witness accounts describe a scene of horror, with body parts and debris scattered across the area, creating chaos and panic among residents.


The blast obliterated a significant portion of the factory, leaving a wreckage that instilled fear in the local community.


Residents recounted the terrifying moments as the explosion occurred, followed by screams and confusion as they rushed to assist the victims.


Emergency services, including police and fire brigade teams, arrived promptly to conduct rescue operations and manage the fire.


With the help of local villagers, the injured were evacuated and taken to hospitals for treatment.


This incident follows a similar tragedy in February at a firecracker factory in Harda, where at least 11 people lost their lives and 149 were injured due to a massive explosion and subsequent fire.
