Tragic Fire in Lucknow Claims Lives of Two Kanpur Residents
Fire Incident in Lucknow
On Monday, a devastating fire broke out in a commercial building in Lucknow, resulting in the tragic deaths of 15 individuals, including two from Kanpur who worked as 3D artists at an animation studio. Authorities have identified the victims as 28-year-old Sanyam Vij from Govind Nagar and 24-year-old Surajbhan Singh from Barra.
According to a senior official, Sanyam and Surajbhan were employed at the same 3D animation studio located within the building. They were not only colleagues but also close friends, both having lost their fathers years ago.
The two friends were the primary breadwinners for their families. Sanyam's father, Pushpraj Singh, passed away approximately 15 years ago, while Surajbhan's father, Shivraj Singh, had also died. Relatives mentioned that Sanyam had been living in Lucknow for the past three years and would return to Kanpur on weekends. He was scheduled to come home on Tuesday for his grandmother's memorial service.
Surajbhan's brother, Sudhir, had just returned to Lucknow on Sunday evening. He expressed disbelief that this would be his brother's final journey. At the time of the incident, their mother, Meera, and brother, Samrat, were in Rishikesh but rushed back upon hearing the news.
On Tuesday morning, both bodies were transported to Kanpur. Kanpur's Police Commissioner, Raghubir Lal, stated that he maintained constant communication with the Lucknow Police Commissioner. As soon as the victims were identified, senior officials were dispatched to the families' homes. He assured that the Kanpur police stand in solidarity with the grieving families. Sanyam's last rites were performed on Tuesday morning, while Surajbhan's will take place later.
Following the incident, Lal announced a special campaign against illegal buildings, coaching centers, hotels, hospitals, and gyms operating on upper floors and basements without emergency exits. A high-level meeting involving police, the fire department, the Kanpur Development Authority, the Kanpur Municipal Corporation, and district administration has been convened to prevent a similar tragedy from occurring again.
